Pearl Walker-Ali
isn’t called the Hair Deva” for nothing! With over a million locks twisted and
being the third generation owner of Legacy Locks & Natural Styles, she
knows a thing or two about natural hair.
She shares her
natural hair philosophies and techniques with a diverse clientele that has
included Eric Jerome Dickey, Sweet Honey in the Rock, Nakia Shine, James Alexander,
and Shelby County Commissioner Henry Brooks. She is a natural hair care
specialist who has worked with clients from a variety of racial/ethnic
backgrounds. In addition to her background in natural hair, Pearl is also a talk
show host, instructor, writer and lecturer as well.
Spring of 2013
she released her first book "Locks Braids & Natural Styles Things You
Want to know Vol 1”.Pearl has been a licensed cosmetologist since 1988 and in
April 2008 Walker was appointed by Tennessee Governor Phil Bredesen to the
State Cosmetology Board making her the first Natural Hair Stylist to serve on
the board as well as the first to be re-appointed in December 2012.
She is the Local
Featured Author for November and will be speaking at the WHM Book Club meeting
on Saturday November 23rd at TJ Mulligans, 362 North Main. In the
